Adopting a skincare routine can work wonders for you. But first, you need to understand the type of skin you have as routines can vary for different skin types. We’ll be focusing on oily skin for this week. Oily skin causes include medication, over-washing, hormonal changes, poor diet, or a change in the environment. Oily skin tends to have visibly large pores and leaves a greasy substance that is known as sebum. Most people experience an increase in sebum production in the summer. It is also essential to notice that the skin types can change over time. This means that if you have oily skin now, it doesn’t mean that it will remain oily forever. Having said that, let’s understand what skincare routines you can adopt for oily skin.
Oily skin can’t go without cleansing in the morning. Dirt, impurities, and excess oil build-up on your skin during the night need to be removed as they could clog up the pores. Start your morning with a mild water-based cleanser and start your day with a fresh canvas. This routine also allows oily skin products to work efficiently.
Since oily skin often has clogged pores, blackheads, and dead skin, you must make exfoliation a routine activity. Also, because of the environmental damage, oily skin tends to become rough, dull, and uneven, hence worsening the appearance of fine lines. Make sure you exfoliate two to three times a week. You can either use recommended chemical exfoliants such as AHAs and BHAs to increase the cell turnover and refine the skin texture at the same time.
Toners for oily skin perform the same function as their dry skin counterparts. Their purpose is to get rid of dirt and makeup and prepare your skin for the next steps. The toner allows the skin to absorb active ingredients from the best products for oily skin you are going to use later. A good toner will take away the oiliness from your skin without making it too dry. Remember, the goal here is to improve the skin’s texture and minimize your pores to maintain the moisture of your skin.
This is where you customize your oily skin care routine and address your skin concerns in a targeted way. If your skin needs hydration – use a hydration treatment; if you want to take care of the fine lines – use antiaging treatment; and if your goal is to brighten your skin – move ahead with a brightening treatment. Oily face treatment can vary depending upon its severity.
After a tiring day – double cleansing at night is a beneficial evening routine. Consider using oil-based cleansers as they dissolve excess sebum and makeup very quickly. First remove the debris, dirt, and makeup, then move ahead with any cleanser that suits your skin.
You can either exfoliate your skin at night instead of doing it in the morning. Make sure to make it a routine habit and exfoliate 2-3 times in a week. Similarly, prepare your skin with a toner whenever you start working on exfoliation.
Sheet marks are soaked in light serums that contain a mixture of ingredients that are beneficial for your skin. These ingredients are antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, etc. A sheet mask addresses every skin concern, including hydrating, moisturizing, antiaging, you name it!
Our lips often get dry because they don’t have sebaceous glands. To make up for it, moisturize them with a lip balm preferably in the morning. Moreover, use a moisturizer to keep your skin nourished throughout the night.
